The Christophorus figure has been part of the Grafingen cityscape since 1954.
Now the figure has been restored and put back on the Urtel Bridge
Grafing – Over the decades, the Christophorus figure erected on the Grafinger Urtel Bridge in 1954 had been badly affected by environmental influences and vandalism.
And so, in 2020, Grafing's mayor Christian Bauer and the archive and museum director Bernhard Schäfer agreed to have the artwork owned by the city undergo a general renovation.
The task was taken on by the stonemason Anton Baumann in neighboring Langwied, in whose workshop the statue was not only cleaned of dirt deposits, but the sculptor Gottfried Pregler also filled in the missing parts according to old photographs.
Now that all the work has been completed, the holy bridge gifted to the Bären community by the godfather of Wasserburg in 1953 on the occasion of Grafing's town status is returning to its original place above the Urtel, so that the busy creek crossing near the Grafinger town hall is now complete again and Sankt Christophorus can again take over his beneficial supervision of the traffic flowing past him.red
