The city of Miesbach is setting a record budget for this year in every respect: higher than ever, more new debts than ever.

But that's not all: the debt could climb to 42 million euros by 2025.

Nevertheless, the finance committee gave the green light – and critical words.

Miesbach – These are numbers that, viewed individually, are not surprising, but taken together they are enormous.

The county seat is expected to take out 10.8 million euros in loans this year, increasing the debt level to 29.1 million at the end of the year.

16.2 million alone will be installed, above all in childcare in after-school care centers and monasteries, in road construction and in the long-planned conversion of the warm outdoor pool.

In 2021, the city received more trade tax than planned and spent less than feared because some projects were postponed or did not materialize.

Key word: no offers for building tenders.

The result was that the level of debt as of January 1, 2022 was even less than 20 million euros because no new loans were needed.

But postponed is not canceled.

What was not done in 2021 is pending this year.

Also read the commentary on the 2022 budget:

Extremely close to over-indebtedness

The vast majority are compulsory tasks such as converting the monastery into a children's home, which alone accounts for 3.54 million.

"We are investing massively in childcare," said Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) on Thursday evening in the finance committee.

And the bathroom conversion with 4.1 million as a voluntary service is politically desired.

Lots of mandatory tasks

The dilemma will continue in the years to come: Many mandatory tasks have to be completed or tackled again - despite rising costs for personnel, material and raw materials.

According to treasurer Josef Schäffler, a debt of 42.6 million euros is foreseeable by 2025.

At the same time, it is uncertain whether the income will collapse due to the corona.

Nevertheless, the committee almost unanimously recommended the figures to the city council for resolution.

Only the former deputy mayors Paul Fertl (SPD) and Michael Lechner (FWG) voted against it.

For Fertl it is a "problematic household" - never before have you recorded so much at once.

Lechner, however, reprimanded that plans are always being made that cannot be implemented financially.

"Household more realistic than last"

His parliamentary colleague Markus Seemüller supported the budget "because this time he is honest".

Unrealistic projects such as the redesign of the market square, the parking deck at the ice rink and the local heating with pellets at the town hall have been removed.

And the transformation of the Riviera will be smaller.

Alfred Mittermaier (CSU) saw the debt relaxed: "That's a plan.

As before, we have to wait and see what is feasible.”

The district office only took note of the approach as a political decision by the city council and made no statement about its approval.

After all: Miesbach can repay his loans, the positive performance is still given in 2022 - but no longer in 2023.

It should get better again in 2024.

However: The line to over-indebtedness is extremely narrow.
