While the number of criminal offenses fell across Bavaria last year, the Gauting Police Inspectorate reported an increase.

Inspection manager Andreas Ruch attributes this development to a new focus of daily police work.

Gauting – When Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann recently presented the crime statistics for the past year, the statement was clear.

Mainly due to the effects of the corona pandemic, Bavaria's police officers had to process the fewest crimes in more than 30 years in 2021.

The Starnberg inspection also reported a significant decrease in crimes a week ago (we reported).

It is all the more pleasing that the statistics presented on Friday for the area of the Gauting PI (it includes Gauting, Hausen, Unterbrunn, Oberbrunn, Gut Hüll and Frohnloh as well as Pentenried) show an increase.

According to this, 795 criminal offenses were recorded last year – 125 offenses or 18.7 percent more than in the previous year.

There was also an increase in the number of suspects identified: from 296 to 350 people (plus 18.1 percent).

The clearance rate has fallen slightly: from 65.2 to 64.5 percent.

First Police Chief Inspector Andreas Ruch has stepped up action against drug-related offences

"It's not my fault," says First Police Chief Inspector Andreas Ruch, who has been working in Gauting since July 12 and who officially took over the management of the department on November 1.

However, that is only half the truth.

Because Ruch is stepping up action against drug-related offences.

"And that's a control offence," he says.

In other words, the more closely the police look, the more crimes they register.

Last year there were 77 drug offenses in the statistics, 21 more than in the previous year.

Of the 83 suspects in this area, 48 were juveniles or adolescents, 18 were female.

Most of the cases involved marijuana.

"That's the start," says Ruch in an interview with Starnberger Merkur.

The result, however, is the consumption of ecstasy or other chemical substances.

The Gautinger police want to counteract this decisively.

"It is important to us that the consumption of drugs does not become a matter of course," emphasizes Ruch.

He also wanted to prevent the starting age from falling any further.

In the meantime, 12 or 13-year-olds would occasionally smoke joints.

There are no focal points in town - "but of course we know certain park benches or areas on the Würm," says Ruch.

So-called cybercrime offenses, i.e. goods fraud, computer fraud or identity theft, have also increased – from 309 to 414 cases.

“Hardly a day went by without at least one report from this area of crime not being received in the Gautinger Inspectorate’s electronic inbox,” explains Ruch, naming a particularly striking example.

Perennial favorites are the wrong police officers, lawyers, Microsoft employees

A 40-year-old woman from Gauting booked a holiday home on the North Sea island of Langeoog for the summer holidays via a classifieds portal on the Internet – for what was supposedly 700 euros.

After she transferred 460 euros down payment and deposit, she never heard from the alleged landlady "Stephanie Hida".

"The supposed bargain on the Internet all too often turns out to be the exact opposite," warns Ruch about fake ads.

A perennial issue throughout the district, but also in Gauting, are the wrong police officers, lawyers, Microsoft employees and the like who want to lure their victims away with calls.

There are no exact figures for this, but: "Today alone we had six cases again," said Ruch on Friday.

Thefts have increased from 118 to 140, including 51 bicycle thefts, 11 shoplifting and six home burglaries.

Ruch is pleased that the last value mentioned continued at the low level of the previous year, because: "An important indicator of the population's subjective sense of security is undoubtedly the number of burglaries."

The number of cases of the distribution of pornographic writings has more than doubled to 13.

This also includes the sometimes even voluntary sending of nude photos, for example when a 17-year-old hopes for better chances with a 13-year-old.

"The Gautinger police focus on prevention in this field of crime, especially through their youth officers in the secondary schools," explains Ruch.
