Microsoft's subscription service, the Game Pass, is a monthly subscription service that allows players to access an online game library, like the gaming Netflix if you will.

While the Game Pass is available for both Xbox consoles and PC gamers, Sony PlayStation gamers have wondered what Sony's answer will be and whether it plans its own service that will compete with that of Microsoft.

Last December it was revealed on Bloomberg that Sony is indeed working on a competing service that has been named the "Spartacus" project that will actually unify its existing subscription services, PS PLUS and PS NOW, and offer access not only to previous and current generation games, But also PlayStation 1, 2 and 3 games.

Now a new report by Jason Schreier, the Bloomberg reporter who also reported on the original article 'reports that according to sources close to the issue at Sony Planners will unveil

the new service as early as next week

.

Jason Schreier is considered the most reliable source in the industry, and quite a few times leaked news that eventually turned out to be true - as he warned about the problematic launch of Battlefield 2042 even before it was released, so PlayStation players definitely have something to look forward to.

Schreier did not provide further details beyond what has been reported in the past, but noted that the same sources said the service would be marketed with quite a number of games considered hits, and hopefully during the week Sony will indeed release an official statement on the matter.

The new service will reportedly be offered for PlayStation 4, 5 and PC users.

It will maintain the PS PLUS branding and will be divided into different monthly payment routes that will give subscribers different benefits accordingly: the first route will be the same route as the current PS PLUS subscription, the second route will allow access to PlayStation 4 and 5 games, and the third route will also allow access to the cloud service and streaming games from The different generations.

The Game Pass service has been a huge success and according to reports, about 25 million users currently subscribe to it.

While the move is considered an industry precedent and very user-friendly, it also helped prove that the future of companies no longer relies not only on the number of console units sold in each generation, but also the number of monthly and regular users is considered a very central and important factor nowadays.

Sony realized that it could not just rely on the sale of exclusive consoles and titles, and recently it also opened up to the PC gaming community and set up the Playstation PC division, which is responsible for customized PC versions for its exclusive titles - a move that opened it up to a new consumer audience.
