Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic affirmed that his country will not join NATO out of respect for the memory of its children killed by the alliance in 1999, stressing that Serbia will defend its skies and land by itself.
"We must have good relations with everyone, they are old and strong, but we should never join NATO because we do not dare to forget the children they killed and we must be strong and tough enough to defend," Vucic was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti news agency at an election rally in the city of Ozic. Last week, Serbia witnessed massive rallies bearing the slogan "We are against NATO," in which Serb citizens commemorated the victims of NATO's bombing of Yugoslavia 23 years ago.
Vucic stressed yesterday that the US-led NATO committed the most heinous crimes against civilians during the aggression it launched against the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1999 without a legitimate mandate from the UN Security Council.
