The Syrian Astronomical Society announced that the world is on a date to blackout the entire planet at exactly eight thirty in the evening to commemorate the international occasion (Earth Hour), which sheds light on the problems facing the planet in the last several decades.
And a member of the board of directors of the Syrian Astronomical Society, Nabil Al-Bish, said in a statement to SANA that the complete blackout of the planet is not just meant to be obscured. The Earth Hour movement is trying to reach its idea, which is to make people re-evaluate their consumption habits and become more environmentally friendly in their daily lives and motivate astronomers to support this movement, taking into account Consider that the less light pollution we produce, the more the sky is filled with stars and bodies that we can see and observe.
Al-Bish explained that Earth Hour is an annual global event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature, during which individuals, communities, homeowners and companies are encouraged to turn off lights and non-essential electronic devices and to raise awareness of the danger of climate change and the issues facing our planet for one hour in the evening from 8:30 to 9:30, according to the time. To participate in this event on the last Saturday of March.
The Australian city of Sydney was the first to start this campaign in 2007 and since then this number has grown to become more than 7000 cities and villages around the world participating in this global trend. Every year millions of people participate in this day in more than one country around the world with the aim of starting international talks and initiatives to protect Nature and the fight against the climate crisis.
