Palm dult and Sunday shopping ensured a real state of emergency in downtown Freising - in a positive way, mind you.

Freising

– The five-year-old Josefina summed it up on Sunday with just one sentence: "Mom, now it finally smells like spring again!" Together with her mother Marion Kerschbaum, the two had come from Kranzberg to Freising to see the Palmdult in the city center to enjoy in glorious weather.

The Dult with Sunday shopping attracted so many people from all over the district to Freising that the city was bursting at the seams at times.

It's so easy to combine shopping and eating

It was actually difficult at times to move forward between Obere and Untere Hauptstraße, because people from near and far had come in droves to be able to fully enjoy the first Palmdult since the beginning of the pandemic.

In front of the various stands with sausages, various rolls and sweets, queues formed so long that it was easy to lose track of who was actually waiting for what.

It was much easier for the children in front of the small carousel at Marienplatz, because the rush was quite limited here, so that Josefina was able to do another round right away.

"Eating and shopping, today we simply combine everything and have a good time!" said Marion Kerschbaum, who is very happy that "normal" life is finally picking up speed again.

Bringing popcorn to the public for a good cause

Heinrich Märkl from the Johanniter Allershausen, who, together with the Rotary Club Freising, brought popcorn to the people for a good cause in return for a donation, sees it similarly.

"With the money we support the Freising women's shelter, the prop shop and of course the Ukraine victims," says Märkl.

What he also found very positive: "Some have masks on, others don't - nobody is looked at stupidly because of that!"

Daniel and Julie Denhöfer from Pfaffenhofen also wanted to enjoy the time "smartly".

The "great weather" and the numerous stands were a welcome change for the couple after the long pandemic break, especially because an exciting event is soon to come for the two of them.

"We're going to have a good time now before Anton is born," said Julie Denhöfer, who will become a mother in July.

Safado provided live drum music

Alexander and Nicole Mörwald also found the hustle and bustle in the city center to be “totally unfamiliar”, which is why they simply used the shopping Sunday to go shopping.

"I have a mixed feeling about Corona," says Alexander Mörwald, because the number of infections is already very high.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The mood captured by the visitors nevertheless showed that basically everyone was just very happy that normality was returning and that they were enjoying an incredibly beautiful spring day with live drum music by the street formation Safado under the direction of Roman Seehon over a cup of coffee and at the same time could take something nice home with them.

While many people opted for handmade Easter decorations, Josefina's wish had long been clear: a pack of roasted almonds.
