The military prosecution filed today, following a police investigation, an indictment against a Palestinian who set fire to a building used as a beit midrash in Mitzpe Ziv in the southern Hebron hills.
According to the indictment, on January 13, 2022, a 31-year-old Palestinian resident of the village of Yatta arrived at Mitzpe Ziv.
Together with a number of friends, he sat down near the beit midrash in Mitzpe, and then the decision to set the place on fire in order to flee its occupants came to their hearts.
As a result of the arson, the front door and the supporting wall were burned.
Two days later, on January 15, the defendant arrived at the scene once more alone, broke into the beit midrash and set him on fire again.
It is not enough, on February 3 this year, the defendant placed a sign next to the beit midrash, threatening further arson if they did not stop on the island of the beit midrash from reaching the place.
The sign was signed on behalf of the military wing of the terrorist organization Hamas.
Following the arson, an investigation was opened by the Israel Police.
Today, the military prosecution filed an indictment and a request for detention until the end of the proceedings in the Judea Military Court against the Palestinian on charges of arson and malicious damage to property.
The Israel Police stated that it "will continue to act against those who intimidate and harm the public peace, using violence and causing damage to property. The police will continue to use all the means at its disposal to bring them to justice."
