As-Suwayda-Sana
The areas planted with winter vegetables in As-Suwayda during the current season reached 4,880 dunums in the various regions of the governorate, with 140 percent of the 3,470 dunums planting plan being implemented.
The Assistant Director of Agriculture in Sweida, Engineer Alaa Shehayeb, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that winter vegetable crops in the governorate include beans, peas, cabbage, cauliflower, garlic, onions and carrots, and most of them depend on irrigation through drip irrigation or well water.
Eng. Shehayeb attributed the planned overreach of the areas planted with winter vegetables to the demand for their cultivation, especially cabbage, cauliflower and peas, due to their economic feasibility and increased demand in the markets.
Last season, As-Suwayda Governorate produced 3,854 tons of winter vegetables within the cultivated areas, which amounted to 3,790 dunums.
