2022-03-27T06:17:23.237Z

According to a Palestinian research institute, if the PA chairman were to be held between only two candidates, Abu Mazen would have lost 38% of the vote. The gaps were bigger, and this time they were reduced by 10 percent

If the Palestinian Authority presidential election had taken place between only two candidates, Abu Mazen would have lost 38% of the vote compared to the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, who would have received 54%. .

However, the turnout in this election will be only 51%.

There is also a slight weakening trend of Haniyeh compared to Abu Mazen.

Three months ago the gap between them was larger and stood at 26% (58% vs. 35%), compared to 16% now.

In addition, in the PA territories in Judea and Samaria, the gap between the candidates is only 6%, compared to the Gaza Strip, where the gap widens to 27%.

In the event that security prisoner Marwan Barghouti confronts Ismail Haniyeh, the participation rate will jump to 64%.

In such a scenario, which of course requires Israeli consent, Barghouti will win with 59% the share that he will receive only 37%.

In the event that Abu Mazen retires, Brogati also leads the poll on the question of the preferred candidate, followed by Haniyeh (20%), Muhammad Dahlan (6%) and Yahya Sinwar (4%).

If Palestinian parliamentary elections were held with the participation of all Palestinian parties and organizations that participated in the 2006 elections, 64% would participate, of which Hamas' list would have won 36% compared to 42% for Fatah. This is a reversal of the trend since three months ago Polls polled compared to 35% for Fatah.

When asked which movement deserves to represent the Palestinians, a majority of 36% answered that both Hamas and Fatah do not deserve it.

The poll showed that a large percentage of Palestinians oppose recent votes in the Fatah Central Committee that appointed Palestinian Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein a-Sheikh as a member of the Executive Committee (Palestinian Supreme Cabinet). Only 26% supported this decision. To the question of a-Sheikh's candidacy for chairman of the PA.

The survey was conducted between March 16 and 20 in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip and included 1,200 respondents of different ages and places of residence, with a standard deviation of 3+.

As you may recall, Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen decided last year to postpone the Palestinian parliamentary elections on the grounds that Israel does not ostensibly allow Cayman in East Jerusalem.
