Parcoursup: last days to register your wishes

2022-03-27T08:53:21.289Z

The registration phase of wishes on the Parcoursup platform ends Tuesday, March 29 at midnight. Our advice to help you in this p

No, you are not alone.

Every year as the end of the first phase of Parcoursup approaches, the same observation is made: many high school students wait for the last days, even the last hours, to register their wishes on Parcoursup, despite all the advice of their main teachers. and their parents, and automatic follow-up emails from Parcoursup.

Counselor-psychologist for national education at the CIO of Aulnay-sous-bois, in Seine-Saint-Denis, Sylvie Amici confirms this very widespread "bias": "We must accept that human behavior is not always rational, at 17 or even much later!

Many young people postpone the moment of registering their wishes because they do not have a precise idea of the job they wish to do later, even though this is not a determining factor in formulating their wishes.

Others block because they anticipate negative responses to all their wishes, which is not very motivating”.

Problem: the information and guidance centers are permanently understaffed, for lack of sufficient resources, it may be too late to make an appointment with a guidance counselor by Tuesday, March 29,

Focus on Parcoursup.fr

All is not lost, even if you have no idea what wishes to record!

First advice: close all the information sites and forums that you may have become accustomed to consulting to try to draw up your list, and focus only on the Parcoursup site.

Ms. Amici also recommends de-dramatizing this moment: "Recording your wishes is only a technical, administrative step, but essential to facilitate the following steps".

Then, go to the Parcoursup training directory (tab: “find a training course”).

It's a mine, but the amount of information can be scary.

Two methods are available to you: if you have an idea of the area(s) you wish to study, simply enter them at the top left in the search bar by keywords.

For example, by indicating "chemistry", the directory will display all the courses that contain chemistry, BTS, BUT, engineering schools, preparatory classes, in a given territory (city, department, region).

Another method if you have no idea for the rest of your studies: look for training by type of diploma.

In the left column, under the search bar, you can sort the courses by choosing public or private, BTS, license, etc.

For example, if you prefer to do short studies, such as a BTS in 2 years after the baccalaureate, you select the "BTS" box, then at the bottom of the column all the BTS specialties will be displayed;

all you have to do is click on the ones that interest you to find out more.

Do not limit yourself in your choices: you have the right to be interested in training as different as design and history, or medicine and architecture.

Each of your requests will be examined and/or processed by different establishments, which will not be aware of your other wishes.

Read the detailed training sheets

Each training present in the directory of the Parcoursup site is presented with a summary which indicates the location, the name of the establishment, the access rate, the number of places and the distribution of baccalaureate (general, technological, professional) among the candidates accepted in 2022. By clicking on "See the file" you will have access to a lot of very detailed information, on the establishment, the knowledge and skills expected, the criteria for examining files, job openings, etc.

You can also find the "2021 Vow Examination Report" there, which details the criteria for ranking and choosing students.

Very useful when writing your motivated project.

You are seduced by a training?

All you have to do is click at the bottom right of the card to add it to the list of your wishes.

“This is the essential step to accomplish before March 29, recalls Sylvie Amici.

There will then remain 10 days to write the motivated projects.

So you might as well focus on your wish list in the last few days, and move on to writing motivated projects in a second step”.

Plan A and B plans.

Another piece of advice: do not censor yourself by depriving yourself of putting on training courses that make you want, but presented as very selective.

For safety, plan B plans all the same: for example, if your first wish is to go to MPSI preparatory class, also register wishes for a mathematics or physics license, in case you are not taken in prepa.

“Plans A and plans B, that's good, underlines Sylvie Amici, but there's no point in also having plans C, D, etc.

You have to stay on training and types of diplomas that interest you, because if you have no answer at the end of the main phase, know that there are still very interesting training courses each year with places available at the time of the complementary phase.

According to the adviser,

a multiple wish or a sub-wish?

The wishes saved, there is still work to be done.

Your wishes finally registered, within the limit of 10 main wishes (to which are added the sub-wishes), resist the urge to forget Parcoursup until next May.

First, because you still have to write and register your motivated projects on the platform by April 7, without forgetting to carefully confirm each of your wishes.

Secondly, because it is useful, as Ms. Amici recommends, to continue to do research on the training courses for which you have registered wishes, to allow your reflection to mature, in order to refine your own classification, and not to find yourself without knowing what to choose when the answers fall from June 2.
