Russia's representative to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, described the union's abandonment of oil and gas supplies from Russia as a "suicidal step" for him.
Chizhov said in an interview with Russia 24 channel today: “Abandoning Russian hydrocarbons would be a suicidal step to some degree for European Union countries and for politicians, it would be political suicide,” noting that President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a new gas pricing system was a shock and surprising for Europeans.
"I think that in the coming days the accounting mechanism will be audited and it will be publicly disclosed, and they will have the ability to realize this, and energy companies are now striving to find out where they will bring the rubles from," Chizhov added, stressing that European countries will be forced to move to pay for gas in Russian rubles because the maximum volume of natural gas The issue that the Americans can guarantee is only 10 percent of Russian supplies.
It is noteworthy that the Russian President announced on the 23rd of this month the conversion of the system of payments for Russian gas supplies to unfriendly countries to the Russian ruble instead of the dollar and the euro.
