Chris Rock will not press charges against Will Smith following his altercation onstage at this year's Oscars, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Smith punched Rock at Sunday night's ceremony after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head while presenting the Academy Award for best documentary.

When Rock joked, "I love you Jada, 'GI Jane 2,' I can't wait to see it," the camera cut to Pinkett Smith, who rolled her eyes.

The "Red Table Talk" host has been outspoken about her struggle with alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that causes her hair to fall out.

After the prank, Smith went onstage and punched Rock, before telling him to "get my wife's name out of your fucking mouth."

During his emotional speech, Smith apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees for the incident, but did not mention Rock by name.

Although Smith's actions have been widely condemned on social media, with many arguing that he should be charged with assault, his 23-year-old son, Jaden Smith, shared a tweet shortly after the incident, which read, "And this is how I do it." we make".

Los Angeles police confirmed Monday that Rock refused to file a police report.

"Los Angeles Police investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards show," the department told CNN in a statement.

"The incident involved an individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, Los Angeles Police will be available to complete an investigative report."

Smith appeared to predict the chaos of Oscar night in an Instagram post hours earlier.
