Old paper driving licenses – whether gray or pink – must be exchanged for counterfeit-proof copies in credit card format.

Driver's licenses issued before January 19, 2013 will need to be exchanged in the coming months.

So make an appointment in good time.

Nuremberg – Old driving licenses that were issued before January 19, 2013 must gradually be exchanged for the new, limited EU driving licence.

This applies to grey, pink and unlimited driving license cards, writes the city of Nuremberg in a press release.

Nuremberg: Those born between 1953 and 1958 are first

Those born between 1953 and 1958 must be the first to go to the office: by July 19, 2022 at the latest. Those born between 1959 and 1964 have until January 19, 2023 to exchange.

Old driving licenses are no longer valid after the expiration date.

So that the offices are not overloaded, the driver's license office is asking the affected citizens to make an appointment for the exchange now.

There are two ways to do this.

You can then apply for a driver's license exchange at http://fuehrerscheinumtausch.nuernberg.de.

Alternatively, you can exchange your driver's license at the public order office in Hirschelgasse.

Please make an appointment for this at: http://terminordination.nuernberg.de/.

There are currently enough appointments.

Only the driver's license is exchanged - there is no new driver's license test or examination.
