Karlsfeld joins the climate protection alliance

The municipality of Karlsfeld joins the Climate Alliance.
The council passed this unanimously at its most recent meeting.
Karlsfeld is thus in a pioneering role - and hopes for imitators.

– Karlsfeld also joins the European climate alliance.

Climate Alliance is the largest network of European cities dedicated to climate protection.
Over 1800 municipalities and regions in 27 countries have joined the alliance since 1990.
The targets are in line with the EU climate targets and the reduction targets of the Paris Agreement.
Among other things, the alliance members undertake to reduce CO2 emissions by 95 percent by 2040 compared to 1990 levels. Anyone involved in the alliance is called upon to implement “effective and comprehensive climate protection”.
Tropical wood should not be used.
The climate protection manager of the municipality of Karlsfeld, Franziska Reitzenstein, who has been working in the town hall for a few months, had the idea of joining.
At the council meeting, she campaigned for approval.
The voluntary commitment to reduce CO2 emissions would strengthen the municipality's efforts to achieve climate and greenhouse gas neutrality and increase the obligation to achieve the goals.
In this way, the municipality underscores its role model function in climate protection.
In turn, Climate Alliance supports climate protection measures and projects in Karlsfeld.
Added to this is the networking with other member communities.
In this way, one can benefit from the experiences of other communities in terms of climate protection.
The climate protection manager is convinced that by participating in the climate alliance, Karlsfeld is setting “a public, trend-setting sign for climate protection in the community”.
Membership can be communicated to the outside world in a way that is effective in the media.
Expected consequences: On the one hand, there are municipalities in the district that are also considering membership in the alliance, on the other hand, citizens should be motivated to get involved in more climate protection.
Reitzenstein: "We want to pick up the citizens."
As part of membership, the community receives discounts for participation in a variety of projects and programs offered by Climate Alliance.
Reitzenstein named the "City Cycling" campaign and the CO2 monitoring instrument (climate protection planner) as examples, which is used to draw up the current energy and greenhouse gas balance.
The district of Dachau has been part of the Climate Alliance since 2008.
Other members from the region are Maisach, Unterschleißheim and the district of Fürstenfeldbruck.
As far as the municipalities in the district of Dachau are concerned, Karlsfeld is in a pioneering role with its accession.
The financial effects are very manageable: the costs for the municipality of Karlsfeld amount to an annual contribution of 231 euros.
As far as climate protection is concerned, Karlsfeld must also be willing to invest in the coming years, as municipal councilor Michael Fritsch from the Greens explained: "The decisive question is how much money we want to spend on it."
