Now you can listen to the work of Dante Alighieri divided into three audiobooks and with the voice of the actor José María de Tavira.

We will always have the classics of literature, but living them in a different way gives it a special touch.

That's what's happening with the new 'The Divine Comedy' audiobook, which you can now listen to in three parts and with the voice of actor José María de Tavira.

Dante Alighieri's masterpiece is now available on Scribd, a subscription service that we have told you about on CNN Underscored and that has book and audiobook options to improve your understanding of the English language and texts that you can find from some of the Latin American writers most prominent.

We interview José María de Tavira, who narrates this literary classic, and the director Miguel Santa Rita about this project.

'The Divine Comedy' comes to streaming

This literary work of Dante is now available on the Scribd platform and it's fair to say that it has a different energy because this version fuses contemporary performance methods and music with the aim of modernizing the cultural impact of the work.

"The complexity that Dante's work implies for new audiences we met with this translation and we acquired the audio rights to bring this version, more friendly and complete, to life in audio", says Javier Aceves, Spanish content leader for Scribd.

The experience to discover Dante's universe was divided into three audiobooks that you can listen to here: Hell, Purgatory and Paradise.

The first to be recorded was 'Infierno' and it was the one that took the longest.

In total, it took 80 hours to record the three audiobooks.

"The great challenge is the dimension of the book and history that it has and attack it from a new tool and not only have to read it and study it, but also offer an exciting listening experience," said Santa Rita.

Bring emotion to voice

José María de Tavira is known for his work in the cinema and theater, but he also has a career as a storyteller, where he can also rely on his gestures and hands to tell stories, but now he only had a microphone in which he had to transmit the weight of the work

"On the one hand I have the conviction that there is no more powerful method in art than the human voice telling a story, but to be up to the task you must reach understanding, which is difficult due to the unknown historical content of the work" , tells us about Tavira.

As much as my naked voice is in front of a microphone, imagination is capable of being transmitted when it is genuine.

Santa Rita said that during the recording process, José María did use his face and hands while he was in the recording studio, although people could not see him, but there is an impact of emotions reflected in the final result.

This is the first time that Scribd Audio incorporates a celebrity for the narration of one of its audiobooks and with this, the platform seeks to increase the quality of the content available on the platform.
