Whether Mallorca, the Canary Islands or the mainland: Spain will again be one of the top travel destinations in 2022.

However, some corona measures still apply.

After around two years of the pandemic, many European countries have now started to relax their corona measures as much as possible or to lift them entirely - including Denmark *, Sweden or the Netherlands.

Spain also wants to treat Covid-19 like a normal disease in the future and has therefore abolished the quarantine requirement in the event of illness if there are no or only mild symptoms.

You can find out here which rules holidaymakers currently have to observe.

The current corona numbers in Spain

On January 13, 2022, Spain reached its previous high of 144,000 new infections within 24 hours due to the omicron variant.

In the meantime, however, the situation has improved enormously;

according to the Spanish Ministry of Health , the

7-day incidence is just

227.07

(as of March 25, 2022).

For comparison: In Germany it is 1,700.6 (as of March 28, 2022, RKI).

The vaccination campaign in Spain has also gone well so far, with around 85 percent of the population being fully vaccinated.

These are the measures when entering Spain

Despite a good development in the Corona numbers, Spain has not yet shaken the entry rules.

Travelers aged 12 and over must continue to carry one of the following three forms of proof:

  • Proof of a full vaccination or a booster

by a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or World Health Organization (WHO).

In the case of a basic immunization, the last vaccination before departure must be at least 14 days and no more than 270 days ago.

  • Proof of recovery from Covid-19 disease

no more than 180 days and no less than 14 days ago.

  • Evidence of a negative test result

by a PCR test that is no more than 72 hours old or a rapid antigen test that is no more than 24 hours old.

It is also necessary to fill out the

immigration

form on the Spain Travel Health portal or via the free SpTH app.

This is possible no earlier than 48 hours before the planned entry.

A QR code is generated from the form, which must be presented in digital or printed form at check-in and upon entry.

The airlines are obliged to check the QR codes, as the Federal Foreign Office informs.

Incorrect information or the missing QR code can result in fines.

Spain vacation: These corona measures apply on site

In general, masks are compulsory in Spain for all persons aged six and

over

in all publicly accessible indoor areas and on public transport.

At major events, seated visitors must wear a mask if the

distance of 1.5 meters

cannot be maintained.

Masks are generally compulsory for people with standing room.

Violations of the mask requirement can result in fines of up to 100 euros.

Access

to hotels, restaurants and bars in Spain is largely possible without compulsory vaccination or testing

– however, there may be differences between the regions of Spain.

In Andalusia, for example, some provinces still have restrictions on opening hours and capacity limits in restaurants, according to the Foreign Office.

Which corona rules apply to the Balearic and Canary Islands?

When

entering

the Spanish islands, the same rules apply as for the mainland.

If you want to go directly from the Spanish mainland to the Balearic or Canary Islands, you

no longer have to present proof of vaccination, recovery or test

.

On the Canary Islands, all corona restrictions were temporarily lifted on March 26th.

This means that there are no longer any capacity restrictions in restaurants or other leisure areas.

Only the mask requirement in closed rooms should continue to apply.

Holidays in Spain: what applies when you return

Spain is no longer on the list of high-risk areas.

This means that no digital entry form has to be filled out when entering Germany.

In principle, however, travelers returning must present a 3G certificate.

The following applies to tests: Both PCR and antigen rapid tests may be no more than 48 hours old.
