Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, called on the authorities of the regime in Kyiv to respect the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War and to abide by legal and international standards in the treatment of prisoners.
"It is important, in principle, to treat all captured Russian soldiers in accordance with the Geneva Conventions," Dujarric was quoted by the Russian RIA Novosti news agency as saying.
In turn, the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, directed the documentation of all crimes of torture of prisoners of war practiced by the neo-Nazis in Ukraine.
A video clip broadcasted by activists showed the atrocities of torture and abuse of Russian prisoners, as the Ukrainian Nazis shot the Russian prisoners in the legs before dragging them and subjecting them to beatings to extract information from them.
The Russian Defense Ministry had confirmed the Russian armed forces' commitment to international humanitarian law standards in treating Ukrainian prisoners, including holding them in humanitarian conditions, providing them with three meals a day, and providing them with the necessary health care in a timely manner.
