When the government and experts assessed the fifth wave of the epidemic, they went from optimism to pessimism. For example, Yuan Guoyong first said on January 13 that the disease had not increased geometrically, indicating that the epidemic was under control. If the transmission chain continues to be found, the epidemic should stop around the lunar calendar.
By the 18th, he responded that if the source of all confirmed cases is found, as long as all close contacts are quarantined, the chain of transmission will stop.
By the 23rd, he said that the number of confirmed diagnoses in the future will increase exponentially.
