In Bavaria, the tick season starts as early as it rarely does.
Climate change fuels the plague, which is dangerous for humans and animals.
An expert reveals what needs to be considered now.
The temperatures are rising, the forest and meadows tempt you to go for a walk.
But with the fantastic weather, ticks can also be found more often again.
At the start of the tick season, Oberfeldarzt Doctor Gerhard Dobler answered
the most important questions about ticks in the
Sat.1 interview.
The tick expert reveals that several collection campaigns have been carried out in recent weeks.
In the past 14 days, a “dramatic increase in tick activity” has been observed.
So the ticks “have now become extremely active”.
Expert explains: Ticks in Bavaria are spreading more and more
In addition, the ticks continue to spread.
More and more ticks are found in the mountains, "and always at higher altitudes".
In the meantime, according to the expert, one has to reckon with the little animals even at an altitude of over 1000 meters.
In the research work, Dobler also sees that climate change is having an effect on the spread of ticks: Because of the mild winters, more ticks could survive.
"And we see a much higher number of ticks, especially in spring, than we saw ten or fifteen years ago when we started our work," explains the expert.
A high number of ticks is to be expected, especially in spring.
When walking in nature, it is therefore best to wear long clothes.
