The number of governorates that joined the electronic payment system for services related to the Ministry of Electricity and its affiliated institutions has reached 11, according to the Director of Communication and Executive Support at the General Organization for Electricity Transmission and Distribution, engineer Safaa Shihab El-Din.

Shehab El-Din indicated in a statement to SANA that the number of bills that have been paid through the electronic payment system since the launch of the service on April 14, 2020 so far has reached 614,000 bills, with a total value of about 5 billion Syrian pounds, noting that the ministry launched the electronic payment service from Damascus and its countryside and moved To the rest of the governorates, respectively, and it is one of the first ministries to join the electronic payment system.

Shehab El-Din pointed out that electronic payment contributed to the provision of collection by increasing collection rates because it works around the clock and saves operational expenses for printing paper invoices.

Regarding the payment mechanism, Shehab El-Din indicated that this requires the presence of a bank account with the subscriber in one of the banks linked with the system, which are Commercial, Real Estate, Al-Arabi, Al-Sham, Al-Baraka, Bemo Saudi French, Syria and the Diaspora, and Syria International Islamic, or through an electronic wallet for paying bills and services that are created and fed through my cell company “Syriatel” and MTN, which is available to any citizen.

Shehab El-Din noted the importance of electronic payment as it is a cornerstone in the field of digital transformation and digitization of services, as the Ministry of Electricity formed a working group to assess the current situation in the field of technology and information and to draw up a complete strategy for digital transformation in the ministry and its affiliates.
