More than 5,000 euros for the Ukraine aid were collected during a charity run on the church square on Sunday.

The action was organized by the altar boys of St. Maria.

Starnberg – There was something going on at the church square: almost 300 spectators cheered on the more than 100 runners between the ages of two and 70 who jogged for half an hour around the parish church of St. Maria on Sunday afternoon.

Friends and family donated a certain amount for each round.

The proceeds go to "Caritas International" for the benefit of Ukraine.

"We thought about doing something," said altar boy Fabian Cichlar in his speech at the Sunday service before the charity run.

"It should be something from young people for young people and must not be boring." That's how the altar boys came up with the idea of a charity run - based on one that took place two and a half weeks ago in Tutzing.

"Everyone is invited to watch, run and eat," said Cichlar.

He has been involved with the altar boys for eleven years.

Now he took care of flyers and advertising for the charity run and helped with the construction on Sunday morning together with a team of eight acolytes.

Cones and arrows marked a 200 meter loop around the church.

Under a small pavilion, the participants could register half an hour before the start and fill out the donation forms.

Over 100 runners finally started.

Vincent Scharl moderated the event.

Among the runners were district administrator Stefan Frey and city pastor Dr.

Andrew Jall.

"I just want to run as fast and do as much as I can in half an hour," said Frey.

Acolyte Elisabeth Kolek had similar ambitions.

The 13-year-old took on 30 laps, but the donation should be rounded up to 100 euros regardless of this.

For half an hour the participants ran around the church.

Friends and family cheered on, and if you were hungry in between, there were appetizers and cakes – also for donations.

"I think it's great that so many are here and setting an example," praised Frey.

"We see bad TV pictures and it's great to support these people." He ran the half hour without a break and managed 38 laps.

Instead of his initially planned five euros per round, Frey rounded up the donation to a total of 250 euros.

How much money was collected in total can only be said after payment and receipt of all transfers.

Irrespective of this, 5,200 euros have already been collected through cash payments alone.

The donations go to the Christian organization "Caritas International".

Regardless of denomination and religion, the organization helps people in need.

"Our donation money is to be used in Ukraine for medical care, clothing and food," explained Pastor Jall and thanked him: "It was a great job by all participants and organizers."
