Carrefour has announced the extension of its offer of charging stations for electric cars near its stores.
While it has now deployed 70, the group wants to install more than 2,000 by 2023. The stated objective is therefore to equip "
the entire fleet of French hypermarkets in the group
" with electrical terminals .

Concretely, each store of the sign should, in the long term, be equipped with 10 parking spaces with recharging systems.
In collaboration with Meridiam, the “
Carrefour
” terminals will thus offer different types of charging services ranging from 22 Kilowatts (Kw) to 350 Kw.
Owners of electric cars will thus be able to recharge 50% of their battery in one hour (with terminals having a charging capacity of 22 Kw) or “
fill up
” with electricity between 15 and 45 minutes using fast charging terminals ranging from 50 to 350 Kw.

Terminals for bicycles and electric scooters will also be available.
Join the government objective of 100,000 terminals
According to Automobile Platform, which brings together the entire automotive industry, electric or hybrid cars represent 18.3% of cars sold in France in 2021. While the government wants to end the sale of new vehicles using fossil fuels in til 2040, the Ministry for Ecological Transition has implemented a plan in 2020 to deploy 100,000 charging stations for electric cars, while the country currently has 30,000.
Carrefour therefore places itself in the logical continuation of this government desire to “
decarbonize
” the French transport offer as part of the fight against global warming.

The Leclerc and Auchan groups have also installed electrical terminals in some of their hypermarkets, 823 and 125 respectively. Leclerc also wants to install 5,000 in 2022 and 10,000 in 2025.
