Even in town halls, absences of employees suffering from Corona burden everyday work.

Gmund's Mayor Alfons Besel explains how his administration deals with it.

Gmund – Even if the incidence is slowly falling: Corona still has the district of Miesbach firmly under control.

Not only in many companies and institutions, but also in the town halls as is currently the case in Gmund, absences of sick employees put a strain on everyday work.

We wanted to know from Mayor Alfons Besel (55, FWG) how the administration deals with it.

Corona bottleneck in Gmund town hall: Mayor Alfons Besel explains

Mr. Besel, how is the situation in your town hall?

Three of the 20 employees - including many part-time - are currently suffering from Corona.

Can employees who are in quarantine work from home?

Theoretically yes.

But if you are sick, you are sick.

If someone is debilitated, then they really don't have to work from home.

It is said that an entire department in the town hall is out of action.

That's right.

Corona hit our technical construction office of all people.

Where we now have the big construction site in town with the laying of the power cables and the one-way street regulation, that is of course a key point.

Whole report sick?

"The construction site is now a matter for the boss"

So the construction site becomes a matter for the boss?

Yes, you can probably say that.

I and my deputy Herbert Kozemko have now taken over the topic.

Who else takes care of the work that needs to be done in the department?

Our building authority and other in-house employees take on work if it cannot be postponed.

Of course we prioritize.

However, it may be that one or the other is delayed.

Gmund and Corona, that is now a permanent topic.

Not only with us.

Because we are only a part of the general development.
