The inflation rate in Bavaria is higher than it has been for 50 years.
At that time inflation rose because of the oil crisis, today it is the result of the Ukraine war.
Fürth - The inflation rate in Bavaria has reached its highest level since the 1970s.
In March, consumer prices rose by 7.8 percent compared to the same month last year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday.
Inflation: Above-average price increases for food and energy
Above all, the far above-average price increases for food, petrol, oil and gas played a role: According to the state office, without food and energy the rate would be less than half as high at 3.6 percent.
The Federal Statistical Office wanted to publish its estimate for all of Germany in the afternoon.
Nationally, the differences are rather small.
Ukraine war shocks energy markets
In the case of heating oil, the Fürth statisticians put the price increase for Bavaria at 154.9 percent.
The shock on the energy markets triggered by the Ukraine war played a role here: In February, heating oil was more than 80 percent cheaper.
The last time there were similarly high inflation rates in Germany was in the first half of the 1970s in connection with the oil crisis.
