The Homs Agriculture Directorate estimated its production of irrigated and rain-fed winter vegetables and those grown in greenhouses for the current agricultural season at more than 32 thousand tons, of which about 18 thousand tons are for irrigated winter vegetables, and about 10,000 tons are from greenhouses.
Engineer Younis Hamdan, director of Homs agriculture, said in a statement to SANA that the estimated production of cabbage is 8,436 tons, flower 4,537 tons, 950 tons of turnip and 888 tons of dry garlic, and the rest of the production is distributed among the crops of chard, spinach and red beet.
Hamdan added that the estimated production of rain-fed winter vegetables is 3,748 tons on an area of 371 hectares, with an implementation rate of 100 percent, of which 1,928 tons of green beans, about 700 tons of cabbage and 300 tons of green onions. The rest of the production is distributed in different quantities to garlic, peas, flower, chard and spinach.
Regarding greenhouses and their annual production estimates, the Director of Agriculture indicated that the total number of greenhouses in Homs governorate, all of which are located in the western countryside, is 55,511 homes, with an estimated production of 10,600 tons, of which 9,493 homes are planted with strawberries, 1,632 homes are planted with tomatoes, and the rest are crops of peppers, cucumbers, eggplant and beans.
