The multiple collision involving 80 vehicles on Interstate 81 in Pennsylvania during a snowstorm on Monday left six dead, state authorities said Wednesday.
"There were six fatalities involved in this accident. The identities of the victims will be released once their families have been notified of the death," state police in Frackville said.
The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Monday in northeastern Pennsylvania, amid "an active snow storm."
The road was covered in snow when the accident occurred, authorities said.
At least 24 people were taken to local hospitals after the crash.

In all, the crash involved 41 passenger and 39 commercial vehicles.
Three of the trucks that collided and other private cars caught fire after the incident, The Associated Press news agency reported at the time.

At least three deaths were reported on Monday, but authorities had warned there could be more because several of the cars were on fire.
Officers had to search each of the cars.
Several videos on social networks showed the seriousness of the multiple crash.
In some of them you see the vehicles lose control.
The highway was reopened to normal traffic on Wednesday at noon after highway crews cleaned up the accident site.
