In view of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Mikhail Khodorkovsky expects further attacks by the great power against Eastern European countries.

Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin would also shy away from an attack on NATO member states, the former oligarch said in an interview with Die Zeit.

"He will attack NATO countries, one way or another - not necessarily with rockets, but with terrorist attacks, for example," Khodorkovsky said.

Putin and his circle of power are convinced that they are waging a war against the USA in Ukraine - and thus against NATO.

According to Khodorkovsky, Russia could carry out further attacks as a test of strength.

"I think he's thinking: Will NATO stick together if I cross the border into Poland or the Baltic States?

I can try it!«

Khodorkovsky was a former head of the Yukos oil company and was considered one of the richest men in Russia.

He was imprisoned from 2003 to 2013 after criticizing corruption under Putin.

He has lived in London for years.

Before the parliamentary elections in Russia last year, unlike the well-known Kremlin critic Alexander Navalny, he called for people not to vote at all.

The results of the vote would be falsified anyway, Khodorkovsky said at the time.
