The Russian Defense Ministry announced today that the country's experts will finish this year the modification and modernization of several submarines and warships for the country's navy.
Russia Today website quoted Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu as saying: It is planned that Russian experts will complete the modification and modernization of the Irkutsk nuclear submarine in 2022, and this year also the maintenance and modernization work of the large military missile ship Admiral Vinogradov and the modernization work of the Tomsk missile cruiser will be completed.
Russia began maintenance and modernization work on the Irkutsk nuclear submarine in 2019 at the Zvezda plant, and in the same year the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the submarine would receive new weapons systems and would be able to carry 48 new Kalibr BM, Onyx and Tsirkon missiles, and it is supposed to be returned to service. For the Russian army in 2023.
The length of the submarine is 154 meters, its width is 18.2 meters, and its displacement of water is 23.8 thousand tons. It can also dive to depths of up to 600 meters under the surface of the water and move at a speed of 30 knots.
