Towards Ramadan in Jerusalem: Thousands of policemen stationed in the capital, GSS monitors ISIS operatives | Israel Today

During the coming weeks, the police will hold daily situation assessments. • The defense establishment will announce tonight regarding the restrictions on entry to the Temple Mount.

The defense establishment is preparing for the month of Ramadan with thousands of police in the capital and the GSS is monitoring ISIS operatives and supporters.

This year the holiday will begin on Shabbat and in the coming weeks the events of Passover, Easter, Remembrance Day and Independence Day will take place at the same time.

In light of this, this is a complex event in which the Jerusalem police will try to allow freedom of worship for everyone.

Against the background of the severe attacks in Be'er Sheva, Hadera and Bnei Brak, the Jerusalem police moved to record alert.

As stated, the GSS conducted a mapping of ISIS supporters and activists, and among other things, such activists were identified in Jerusalem and the district police are preparing to locate them.

In addition, during the month of Ramadan, the police will conduct daily situation assessments and decisions will be made accordingly to tighten such and such restrictions.

The aim is to avoid deterioration in the field, as happened last year with serious disturbances at the Nablus Gate.

Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Doron Turgeman said today in a meeting with reporters that there are many threats from elements seeking to bring about an escalation in the capital.

Among other things, the police marked 110 objects that were identified as instigators and agitators.

About half of those agents have been treated in recent days through warning calls, investigations, interrogations, administrative arrests and removal from Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, the defense establishment will announce tonight regarding restrictions on entry to the Temple Mount.

The Jerusalem police demanded that a limit be placed on the age of entry of worshipers from staffing so that it would stand on unlimited women and men from the age of 45 to sixty, for holders of entry permits into Israel.

On this issue, it appears that there is a gap between the defense establishment and the Jerusalem police.

As mentioned, this year, in parallel with Ramadan, additional events and dates will be marked, and as part of the lessons of the Meron disaster, the police decided to limit the number of worshipers in the places of disaster.

For example, the Priests' Valley event will allow the presence of only 15,000 people in the Western Wall plaza, and in the community event of the lighting ceremony, only a thousand people will be allowed to enter the tomb complex.

These are significant changes compared to previous years.

The district commander referred in Sheila to Hacha Itamar's request that Gvir climb the Temple Mount tomorrow, the eve of Rosh Chodesh, and noted that tonight an assessment of the situation would be stalled and at the end it would be decided whether to approve his request.

He also noted that this year, as in previous years, the Temple Mount will be open for Jewish visits during Ramadan in the morning only.
