Walker: Less energy consumption "need of the hour"

In the words of Environment Minister Thekla Walker, energy saving is "the order of the day" in view of a possible gas supply stop in Russia.

That applies to the next few months, including the summer, said the Baden-Württemberg Greens politician on Wednesday after a meeting with the department heads of the federal states at an online press conference.

Stuttgart/Berlin - Walker is also responsible for energy in the state government.

The deliberations of the state ministers were under the impression of a possible deterioration in the gas supply in Germany.

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) had therefore put the early warning level of the so-called gas emergency plan into effect.

The federal and state governments are closed, Walker explained.

There is currently no supply bottleneck.

However, the early warning level announced by Habeck serves to better prepare for possible delivery bottlenecks or delivery failures.

Walker said the climate crisis must not be lost sight of.

Security of supply and climate protection are not contradictory.

"You can only do both together," said the Stuttgart minister and promoted the expansion of renewable energies.

The ministerial round of the federal states is currently led by Lower Saxony.
