A home directly at the Deisenhofen train station would be a perfect place for the brewers.

Whether it will work remains to be seen.

Oberhaching

– Since it was founded in November 2015, the Oberhaching Brewery Cooperative has made it its goal to brew “beer from Oberhaching for Oberhaching”.

Since then, the community has been looking for a suitable place where not only beer lovers can meet in good company, but where there is also space for a brew kettle.

"Now the desire for a home in the village has come a good deal closer," reported board member Berno Breitruck.

In the former Greek restaurant Aphrodite

An investor has acquired the property opposite the Deisenhofen S-Bahn station, where the Greek restaurant "Aphrodite" with beer garden is currently located, and is planning to demolish the dilapidated old building and build a new inn identical in construction.

Beer garden should be preserved

The beer garden with its old chestnut trees should be preserved.

In the front area along the street to the S-Bahn, however, a smaller extension will be built, where guests will find space, but where a brewing kettle could also stand.

"One possibility would be to build a "small brewery" there in the ensemble," said Breitruck.

"We are already having good talks with the investor." As he explained to the around 80 members who had gathered in the Forstner community hall at the first general meeting after a two-year break due to the pandemic, there is currently too little money to start the long-awaited project with basic funding estimated at 350,000 euros and, above all, to finance ongoing operations.

"Therefore we ask all comrades for suggestions on how we can do this."

Special beers on a small scale

The idea is to only produce special beers on a small scale in Oberhaching, such as Maibock or Stephanie, but to continue to produce the "normal" beers, which are made in larger quantities such as Helles, Kellerbier or Weißbier, in Gut Forsting.

One member immediately suggested trying to raise the necessary money through "crowdfunding" or "participation rights", whereupon CEO Stefan Schelle explained that this was a possibility, but that ongoing operations could not be guaranteed.

"If only every member would buy a 30-liter keg of the respective special beer every year, for example for a birthday party, the business could function," he reflected.

It was finally agreed to continue to think about it in a small circle and to collect ideas.

At the same time, CEO Sascha Bucklitsch reported that sales volumes are increasing by around ten percent every year, sales have been expanded significantly and Oberhachinger beer is now available in 25 restaurants and kiosks in the south-east of Munich, which makes the comrades very happy.

More and more people want to be there

In the meantime, the number of cooperative members has also increased further and was recently 555 members.

Afterwards there was still strong applause for an atmospheric short film in which Oberhaching and its inhabitants were lovingly presented as a community, of course with an Oberhachinger beer in hand.
