Ana Girardot in Polly Maggoo: “I have always assumed”
Why did you choose this character?
Who are you, Polly Maggoo?,
the cult film by William Klein, is a satire of the fashion world of the 1960s. This character allowed me to slip into an era where we did our hair and made up with lots of effects.
Wearing this mask helped me to become another.
What are your makeup secrets?
I very rarely wear makeup, but sometimes I use my lipstick as a blush for a healthy glow.
In the summer, I treat myself to an eyelash perm to look like I'm wearing mascara all day for two months.
What physical extravagances have you ever allowed yourself?
Any.
I don't have any piercings or tattoos, but I think it might be time to get started!
My wildest dreams?
Cut my hair very short or dare platinum blond.
Do you regret certain looks?
No, I love everyone I've been.
I always assumed to disguise myself a little in my way of dressing because I felt good in such an outfit at that time and that the gaze of others made me indifferent.

Why did you choose this character?
The idea of the subject being to choose an iconic make-up, I rather went for a glamorous character, like Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky's film, even if I hesitated for a second with
Joker
or Clockwork
Orange
.
What are your makeup secrets?
Don't overdo it.
If I'm pretty good at putting on makeup when I play in the theater, I really don't know how to do it in life.
I therefore bet on simplicity to avoid misses and only allow myself a little blush on the cheeks to illuminate the complexion.
What physical extravagances have you ever allowed yourself?
I became a redhead on a whim.
With hindsight, I realize that it was not necessarily a good idea, because at the same time a film was released in which I appeared as a brunette with short hair: no one recognized me.
Do you regret certain looks?
Obviously !
What I missed the most in my adolescence were my subject choices.
I have a very precise memory of tight pants in ugly purple Lycra.

Why did you choose this character?
Because Zendaya, the main actress of
Euphoria,
is sublime, but also for everything told by this transgressive, powerful, fragile, tender and poetic series.
What are your makeup secrets?
I know that applying mascara (a lot in my case) to my eyes will open my eyes, and if I'm expected at a party, I add a line of eyeliner and lightly colored lipstick and moisturizer to make my beautiful.
What physical extravagances have you ever allowed yourself?
I never tried anything extravagant.
I would have loved to dare the boyish cut, but with my hair type, I'm afraid that regrowth will be a bit complicated… So I'm waiting for a director to offer me this opportunity!
Do you regret certain looks?
In 2011, I was a juror at the Deauville American Film Festival and, not wanting to upset the hairdresser and makeup artist who was preparing me, I found myself with improbable looks on the red carpet.
From puffs to outrageous hair accessories, there are countless fashion faux pas.

Virginie Ledoyen in Sophia Loren: "In life, I have no beauty secrets"
Full screen
Virginie Ledoyen plays in the series
The Island of Thirty Coffins,
on France 2. Thiemo Sander
Why did you choose this character?
My choice initially fell on Claudia Cardinale, but since Sophia Loren's makeup looks were more iconic, I finally changed my mind.
The more general idea was to give a nod to Italian cinema and to the ultra-cinematic and inspiring Italian actresses of those years.
I love them.
What are your makeup secrets?
I find it interesting to wear masks in my work, but I don't like it in life.
So I have no beauty secrets.
On sets, I ask makeup artists for the same advice over and over again, but I immediately forget it.
What physical extravagances have you ever allowed yourself?
I've never been very daring in my life, even to dare the Jean Seberg haircut that I've dreamed of since I was 14.
As films allow me to transform myself, that does not interest me much on a daily basis.
Do you regret certain looks?
I had a ska period, during which I wore high buns with black henna, Dr. Martens and red lipstick.
It wasn't the most flattering style, but I loved it.

Amira Casar in Amy Winehouse: "I hate the idea of good taste"

Why did you choose this character?
I didn't choose Amy Winehouse, she chose me!
And I was delighted because she was a free woman, a great artist endowed with an incredible vocal technique and very beautiful gestures.
She was also a maverick.
What was magical about this girl was that she was her own creation.
What are your makeup secrets?
I like to highlight an inhabited or fragile look.
My essentials?
A Dr. Barbara Sturm serum, an Augustinus Bader cream and a rosy milky complexion.
Abroad, I allow myself to be daring: a matte plum mouth or flowing smokey eyes like “I slept with my make-up”.
What physical extravagances have you ever allowed yourself?
A platinum blonde hair color for a Sophie Calle film, shaved or bleached eyebrows, a “punkette” shaved neck… I find the change necessary and exciting when it comes to playing a role.
Do you regret certain looks?
I hate the idea of "good taste".
It is dictatorial and moral.
Rather, I'm looking for a certain idea of harmony.
For me, there are no fashion missteps, all daring is allowed.
