Expansion of the Schwaig commercial area, expansion of the FTO and S-Bahn ring closure: projects like these will pose major challenges for the fire brigades in the community of Oberding in the future.

That is why Lorenz Huber, district fire inspector and commander of the Oberdinger fire brigade, presented a new fire brigade requirement plan to the municipal council on Tuesday.

Oberding - The numbers that the five weirs can refer to are quite impressive for a municipality of this size.

Due to the current developments, there is still a need for action.

According to Huber, requirements planning usually covers a period of one to two years, but this time he has set it at 15 years – precisely because of the many large-scale projects.

Of course, there is also a lot of “reading the crystal ball” involved.

The fire brigades in Aufkirchen, Niederding, Notzing, Oberding and Schwaig had 221 adults and 44 young people on active staff last year.

"We're on the same scale as the Erdinger fire brigades, only they have 38,000 residents and not 6,000 like us," said Huber.

Some cities could “dress up warm” when it comes to staffing levels compared to Oberding.

For example, we have more than the city of Dorfen," says the district fire inspector.

And: "We bring two complete extinguishing trains together with the daily alarm strength alone." There are 51 people here.

Contrary to the Bavarian-wide trend, the number of staff in Oberding has even increased.

As Huber pointed out, three fire departments can always meet the ten-minute help deadline, which is good for helping each other out.

"There's nowhere else in the district," said Huber.

In the Schwaig commercial area, the weirs from Schwaig and Oberding keep to the aid deadline.

"With the expansion of the commercial area in Schwaig, however, at some point we will no longer be able to do without turntable ladders," said Huber, who believes that a corresponding purchase will be necessary in the coming years.

One solution would be the airport fire brigade's turntable ladder.

“From the experience of the last few years, however, it does not move out into the municipal area.

Airport vehicles must be requested separately and cannot be included in the initial alert.

It is therefore not possible to meet the deadline for assistance either in the Schwaig industrial park or at the school center," says Huber, according to which a turntable ladder is needed for around four to five operations a year.

There are existing buildings in the community where the second escape route via portable fire brigade ladders is not 100 percent available.

According to Huber, a parking space for a new rescue vehicle is to be planned for the future new fire station in Schwaig.

This will become necessary with the four-lane FTO expansion between Erding and the airport.

The rescue vehicles of the city of Erding would then no longer be able to reach every point at the FTO within 20 minutes.

Operational planning is then carried out in the same way as on a motorway.

The "motorway triangle out there", as Huber described the traffic situation, is now quite confusing for the fire department.

For the years 2026 to 2036, Huber listed four replacement purchases for vehicles to be exchanged.

The many false alarms are annoying, in Oberding and Schwaig there were 56 on average over the past three years.

"It's really annoying and motivates the firefighters."
