A school bus crashed in Trier on Wednesday morning.

The bus drove head-on into a tree.

Eleven children and young people and the bus driver were injured, some seriously.

.: In a serious school bus accident, eleven students and the bus driver were injured, the Trier city administration announced.

Among the injuries were many bruises, lacerations on the head, concussions, whiplash or tooth injuries.

It was initially reported that 14 students had to be transported to hospitals.

"There were no life-threatening injuries," the city administration announced on Wednesday afternoon.

23 other children and young people were brought to a nearby hall and received medical care there.

Some of them had suffered bruises and abrasions and had to be treated on site.

At the time of the accident, a total of 35 people were on board in addition to the bus driver.

The Lininebus had left the lane in rush hour traffic when turning right from the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge onto the Martinsufer for previously unknown reasons and hit a tree on a green strip in the middle of the street, according to the police.

The public prosecutor's office commissioned an expert to reconstruct the accident.

According to the city of Tier, around 130 rescue workers were on site during the large-scale operation.

The Martinsufer was closed until midday, and there were significant traffic delays.

According to the fire brigade, the Toni Chorus Hall was also cordoned off to protect parents and children from onlookers.

The badly damaged tree was removed.

In the meantime, all passengers in the vehicle involved in the accident have been picked up either in the hospital or by their parents.

The cause of the accident is therefore not yet known.
