A 35-year-old unemployed man pretended to be a customer at a restaurant in Kwai Chung late at night on the 9th of this month. When he was buying takeaway rice noodle, he suddenly took out a 𠝹 knife in an attempt to robbery, but was chased by the staff with a kitchen knife instead, and he lost 100 yuan if he failed to robbery.
The unemployed man was arrested and found to be involved in three other robberies. He was eventually charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery.
The case will be heard again today (31st) in the Kowloon City Court. The prosecution applied to postpone the hearing to April 27th, pending the opinion of the Department of Justice, including which court the case should be dealt with. The defense objected that the postponement time had passed. However, the magistrate finally approved the prosecution's application and rejected the defendant's bail application, and the defendant was still waiting for hearing.
The last hearing of the case was adjourned to obtain two psychiatric reports. The defense has now clarified the contents of the reports, stating that one of the reports mentioned that the defendant, Chen Jiajian, claimed that there were aliens pretending to be his family members, but the defendant said that he did not. The defendant tried to interject several times during the hearing, but was interrupted by the adjudicator. The defendant finally emphasized through his lawyer that he had no mental problems and did not want to return to the Xiaolan Psychiatric Center.
The defendant, Chen Jiajian, was charged with 2 counts of robbery and 2 counts of attempted robbery.
The charges allege that on March 9, 2022, he attempted to rob Huang Mingchu at Shop F2, No. 4-8, Tak Tai Path, Kwai Chung; on the 4th of the same month, he robbed a convenience store in Nan Fung House, Nan Shan Village, Sham Shui Po. He Qiming also robbed 1,500 yuan; on the 7th of the same month, he robbed Zhang Laihua at a petrol station in Tai Kok Tsui Kok, and robbed 950 yuan; and on the 3rd of the same month, he attempted to rob Zheng Dewei in a convenience store on the ground floor of Kaixuan Industrial and Commercial Center Phase 1.
