Corona in Germany: Incidence falls again slightly

The Robert Koch Institute* (RKI) reported 252,530 new corona infections and 304 deaths this Friday.

"The peak of the wave has probably been reached," said the RKI in its current weekly report on Thursday evening.

The incidence fell by 2 percent compared to the previous week.

The nationwide incidence peaked at 1,932.8 on March 23, according to RKI data.

However, the infection pressure "remains very high with more than 1.5 million COVID-19 cases transmitted to the RKI within a week", the weekly report reads.

Omikron BA.2* is easier to transfer.

The course of the pandemic "depends on whether larger parts of the population continue to behave prudently and considerately even if government-ordered measures are reduced or to what extent possible contacts relevant to infection increase."

Will the incidence drop in April?

In the last two Corona years, 2020 and 2021, the incidence only dropped significantly in April.

In 2020, a downward trend could already be seen at the beginning of April, in 2021 the values ​​did not fall until mid-April.

Now the peak of the fifth omicron wave would already have been reached at the end of March.

It remains to be seen whether the easing of the corona measures will fuel the infection process again.

The corona virus even surprised virologists Christian Drosten and Sandra Ciesek.

The two corona experts strongly recommend that risk patients in particular continue to wear an FFP2 mask.

Corona in Germany: hospitalization rate at 7.21

The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 7.21 according to the RKI on Thursday (Wednesday: also 7.21).

Here, too, there are days with incomplete reports.

The value also includes many people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.

2,233 Covid patients are currently being treated in the intensive care units in Germany.

Of these, 875 must be artificially ventilated.

This emerges from the data of the DIVI intensive care register on Friday (as of 9.05 a.m.).

The situation in the intensive care units has not changed for weeks.
