Schliersee – The district participants in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing were honored in a tranquil atmosphere in Schliersee.

The district athletes Natalie Geisenberger, Vanessa Hinz, Annika Morgan, Florian Wilmsmann and Lucas Bögl were once again celebrated for their appearance in Beijing.

"Honour where honor is due," said not only District Administrator Olaf von Löwis and, together with the mayors of Miesbach, Schliersee and Holzkirchen, invited the five Olympic participants along with their families and trainers to the ceremony in the local history museum in Schliersee.

It was then also a manageable in number, but top-class party, which once again celebrated the five athletes in words and pictures.

"We didn't want to do without it completely, but we did attach great importance to the required degree of caution and distance," emphasized von Löwis once again.

For Miesbach's district administrator, it was definitely a welcome break in the current crisis mode.

But then pride and the beautiful memories of the great successes in Beijing prevailed again.

Von Löwis himself did not want to take up a lot of speaking time and ended his laudatory speech in a record-breaking pace.

The president of the state parliament, Ilse Aigner, also praised the great moments and congratulated the brilliant brilliance.

The laugh for the slip of the tongue was hers, because of course she meant the brilliant balance sheet.

The respective mayors were then responsible for honoring the individual athletes.

Franz Schnitzenbaumer from Schliersee was very happy about the precious metal from biathlon star Vanessa Hinz and national cross-country coach Peter Schlickenrieder.

But he especially thanked all the coaches and those who worked in the background for their work, without which this success would not have been possible.

If you can highlight one athlete in particular, it is certainly Natalie Geisenberger.

"We are so proud that you are in Miesbach," said Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller.

He praised the double Olympic champion in Beijing and Germany's most successful winter Olympian of all time with a total of six gold medals as an exceptional phenomenon.

Her biggest success - little son Leo - was allowed to stay up a little longer that evening.

He accompanied his mum and dad Markus to the ceremony and had a lot of fun doing it.

The youngest of the five district Olympians also comes from Miesbach: Mother Birgit thanked the absent snowboarder Annika Morgan and took gifts home with her.

Holzkirchen's athletes paid tribute and gave gifts to third mayor Albert Kraml in the absence of Christoph Schmid, who was ill.

He revealed that he would have liked to have made a little more of a career in skiing himself: "But there weren't that many titles that even I could have competed in." Otherwise, he praised the breakneck courage of ski crosser Florian Wilmsmann, who was also absent, and the tireless fight against the Norwegian superiority of Lucas Bögl.

Hans Schwaiger from SC Gaißach – Bögl’s discoverer and trainer – brought an amusing anecdote about the career of the cross-country skier to the best: “I still remember exactly how the little boy stood in front of me with his father and I said: That’s not a Gaißacher , that will not do.

But luckily I let myself be blackmailed.”
