The state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate passed the budget for the current year with the majority of the three government factions SPD, Greens and FDP.

CDU, AfD and Free Voters voted against the spending law with a volume of 20.6 billion euros.

The vote on Friday marked the end of an intense three-day debate.

Mainz - Finance Minister Doris Ahnen (SPD) said that the assumptions for tax revenue on which the budget is based were cautious and not too optimistic.

Even in uncertain times, the state budget for 2022 is easy to justify.

The first consultation on the budget law took place in mid-December and was deepened in the second consultation this week.

Opposition leader Christian Baldauf (CDU) called for more money for education, health and the police.

The government factions SPD, Greens and FDP replied that the government's draft spending law provided answers to urgent challenges within the scope of the financial possibilities.

The budget provides for a net borrowing of 894.1 million euros.

In its original draft, the law assumes revenues of 19.7 billion euros, 6.1 percent more than last year.

Expenditure is expected to increase by 3.8 percent to 20.6 billion euros.

Amendments from the three traffic light groups were also accepted.
