The detonation of a 1,000-pound World War II aerial bomb in a hall at a shipyard in Kiel has caused significant damage.
"The hall and adjacent buildings were damaged by the force of the explosion," said a spokesman for the submarine shipyard ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) on Saturday.
Kiel - It was not yet possible to examine the damage more closely.
"Accordingly, no exact amount of damage could be determined." On Friday afternoon, the aircraft bomb was blown up on the premises of the shipyard.
According to the police, the detonation could be heard throughout the city.
According to a report in the online edition of the "Kieler Nachrichten" (Saturday), the damage is in the millions.
"First estimates put the damage in Hall 10 alone in the double-digit million range - at least 20 million euros," the report said.
The 200 meter long and 30 meter high hall is in danger of collapsing.
Steel gates were torn from their anchorage and almost all panes burst.
"It looks like a war zone here," the newspaper quoted a shipyard worker as saying on Saturday morning.

“We are very happy that no one was injured.
Neither when working on the foundations, where the bomb was found, nor during the subsequent explosion," said the shipyard spokesman.
The clean-up work went well.
The factory fire brigade, employees and supporting companies were busy with clearance and security measures, the company said.
The priority was to remove loose parts to enable safe access to the hall.
A structural engineer released the hall in which new foundations for machines were to be laid for this work.
"Except for the area affected by the blast, the shipyard is back to normal operation," the company said.
The bomb was found during excavation work in the TKMS hall.
Since it had already been moved, it was said that it was too risky to defuse the ammunition, which was equipped with a long-term fuse.
Before the blast, the shipyard area on the east bank of Kiel had been evacuated.
According to the police, there was no danger for residents outside the area.
They could stay in their houses and apartments.
