There was a major outbreak of a gastrointestinal virus in a hotel in Oberallgäu.

57 people had to be medically cared for.

Bad Hindelang - Finally going on vacation again.

After the Corona rules were relaxed more and more in the past few weeks, it has now been possible for many people to travel again without major restrictions.

Especially from Sunday, April 3rd, there are almost no more restrictions, when Bavaria celebrates the so-called "Freedom Day".

A popular travel destination for many people in southern Germany is the Allgäu.

Numerous skiing and hiking areas attract active vacationers.

Others prefer to relax with wellness.

For 57 vacationers who had hoped to relax in Bad Hindelang (Oberallgäu district) near Sonthofen, things went very differently.

They caught a gastrointestinal virus and needed medical attention.

The spokeswoman for the Oberallgäu district office could not say on Friday evening whether it was the easily transmissible norovirus.

She only announced that 57 people in a hotel in Bad Hindelang were infected with a gastrointestinal virus.

Three of them were taken to a hospital for further medical treatment.

The 265 other guests seemed to be fine at first.

They stayed in the hotel with the sick people for the time being.

The spokeswoman also stated that three doctors were taking care of the infected.

In addition, there are 28 helpers from the Johanniter Unfallhilfe and the Red Cross on site.

All public areas of the hotel have been disinfected, it said.

Whether the pathogen is the highly contagious and sometimes dangerous norovirus must now be checked.

According to the spokeswoman, the Oberallgäu health department had the stool samples of the sick people examined.

It was only in the autumn of last year that 18 hikers had to be flown from a hut to the hospital in the Oberallgäu with rescue helicopters.

They also suffered from a gastrointestinal virus.

There were many students among them at the time.
