The Russian Defense Ministry announced today that missile cruisers and other ships of the North and Pacific Fleets conducted anti-submarine exercises in the Mediterranean.
(Sputnik) quoted the ministry as saying in a statement, "The combat ships of the Northern Fleet, in cooperation with the ships of the Pacific Fleet, carried out anti-submarine maneuvering missions in the Mediterranean Sea," noting that the participants in the training were the crews of the missile cruiser (Marshall Ustinov) and the frigate (Admiral Kasatonov). And (Admiral Kulakov), in addition to a large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet, the missile cruiser (Varyag) and the submarine of the Admiral (Tributs).
According to the statement, the exercises focused on the tactics of searching for and tracking submarines in various ways using the sonar systems on board the warship, while the crews of the Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopters conducted optical, radar and magnetic searches on the submarines using radio equipment and sonar stations on board.
