On Friday night and Saturday, IDF and IDF fighters eliminated three terrorists affiliated with Islamic Jihad who were apparently on their way to attack Israel.
The three were killed in a shootout near Jenin.
It is estimated that the cell could have entered Israeli territory with their vehicle through a breach in the border.
On Saturday morning, it was announced that one fighter was seriously injured. Another fighter was moderately injured and two fighters were lightly injured. The fighters were evacuated for medical treatment at Rambam Hospital.
The severely wounded IDF officer is a company commander, who has been serving in the IDF since 1997, senior police officials told Israel Today.
This is an officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel who, according to the sources, participated "in all the most complex operations in the second intifada and was always the first to leap forward."
Among other things, he commanded the forces in a manhunt for the six terrorists who escaped from Gilboa Prison last September.
The police expressed satisfaction and pride after the assassination in Jenin and concern for the wounded on the other hand.
The Border Police commander commented: "This is a brave and professional action by the fighters."
