After completing the maintenance and rehabilitation operations, the Martyr Ghazwan Abu Zaid Sports Hall was reopened in cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the General Sports Federation.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, referred to the great efforts that were made in order to complete the maintenance work, noting the brilliance of basketball in Homs and its distinguished achievements, explaining at the same time that the government’s trend is now towards participatory and that the completion of the maintenance work of the hall was carried out in partnership with the General Sports Federation, and this method will be generalized to The rest of the governorates, where there will be a joint administration of the sports halls of the Ministry of Education to put them in the service of Syrian sports.

In turn, the head of the General Sports Federation, Firas Mualla, said: The city of Homs deserves a civilized basketball, and given the difficulty of building a hall at the present time, a partnership was made with the Ministry of Education for the first time to rehabilitate the hall of Martyr Ghazwan Abu Zaid at an estimated cost of about 500 million Syrian pounds, and it is now equipped with the latest international standards, pointing out He indicated that the rehabilitation works of Khalid Bin Al Waleed Stadium are nearing completion, pending the completion of the works of the stands, and it is expected to be completed in the month of next June.

The President of Al-Wathba Club, Dr. Youssef Salama, pointed to the importance of completing the maintenance work of this hall for basketball lovers in Homs, in partnership between the General Sports Federation and the Ministry of Education, as it increased the capabilities of the clubs operating in the governorate to benefit from them in graduating cadres capable of advancing the reality of Syrian basketball.

A member of Al-Karama Club’s management, Riyad Sayed Suleiman, stated that the completion of the maintenance work for this hall is a small part of the demands of the Homs athletes, and that putting it in service currently meets the ambitions, pointing to the difficulties the clubs faced in training their teams during the period when the Martyr Ghazwan Abu Zaid Hall was out of service, stressing the importance of investing in the best Directed in favor of sports and the need for the public to preserve this civilized facility, whether in terms of floors or facilities.

The Head of the Department of Physical Education in the Homs Education Directorate Yahya Al-Hassan said that the hall needed maintenance for the floors, manholes and bathrooms, and according to the agreement signed between the Ministry of Education and the General Sports Federation, it was agreed to restore it by the union, and maintenance work continued for about three months.

The opening was attended by the Governor of Homs, Engineer Bassam Parsik, and the Secretary of the Homs branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, Omar Houriya.
