Far-reaching corona measures are no longer applicable in large parts of Germany.

What applies nationwide from Monday?

What applies in the hotspots?

An overview.

Munich – The end of numerous nationwide Corona * rules is imminent.

After a two-week transition period, the “old” corona measures will expire on April 2nd.

The Bundestag decided this in its new Infection Protection Act on March 18, 2022.

What remains is a so-called

basic protection

.

That sounds easy.

But in view of the criticism and discussions about the new Corona timetable, it is difficult to keep track of things.

Because there is still the so-called

hotspot rule

.

Of the 16 federal states, only

Hamburg

and

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

are making use of this for the time being.

Further corona requirements apply in hotspots.

The state parliament must first determine an impending critical corona situation for the region.

Mask requirement - This applies nationwide from Monday (April 4th).

  • Masks are compulsory

    in hospitals and care facilities.

  • Masks are compulsory

on public buses and trains as well as in air traffic

FFP2 masks are generally not mandatory - unless supermarkets or restaurants insist on their domiciliary rights

According to the new law, from April 2, 2022, wearing an FFP2 mask in schools, retail or gastronomy is no longer planned.

However, supermarkets or cultural institutions such as theaters or museums can order a mask requirement by domiciliary rights.

Restaurant and hotel operators could also only allow access with an FFP2 mask and also impose access restrictions such as the 3G rule - i.e. the submission of vaccination, recovery or test certificates.

Justification would therefore be "the entrepreneur's need for protection for his employees, his guests and himself".

Masks are compulsory at Aldi, Ikea and C&A – this will apply in discounters and supermarkets from April 2nd

Shopping is possible without a mask from April 2nd.

There is no longer an obligation to wear a mask.

Large supermarket chains and discounters such as Aldi, Rewe and Co. reject a mask requirement by domiciliary rights *.

Companies like Ikea and C&A have also spoken out against it.

On the other hand, some theaters and museums in Berlin, for example, want to continue to wear masks from April 2nd.

  • No mask requirement

    in schools.

  • No mask requirement

    in restaurants or hotels.

  • No mask requirement

in supermarkets, discounters, Ikea and C&A.

Corona test obligation - This applies nationwide from April 2nd

  • Compulsory testing in schools is still possible.

What is the hotspot rule?

In order for hotspot rules to apply, state parliaments must declare a region or even a district a hotspot.

The respective state parliament must determine this by resolution.

According to the new Infection Protection Act, hotspots are areas in which “

there is a concrete risk of a dynamically spreading infection situation

”.

This is the case when a dangerous virus variant spreads – or the number of infections increases sharply and at the same time there is a risk of hospitals being overwhelmed.

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) listed four criteria that could apply to a hotspot, although they do not all have to apply at the same time: the postponement of planned interventions in hospitals due to Corona, the risk to emergency care, falling below the minimum staffing level in the nursing sector and the Forced to transfer patients to other hospitals.

In hotspots, more extensive mask requirements than those provided for in basic protection can be ordered - for example in supermarkets and restaurants.

It is also possible to reintroduce a distance requirement of 1.50 meters in public spaces, especially indoors.

The hotspot regulation also allows the introduction or retention of certain test or verification obligations.

Facilities or offers open to the public can also be obliged to develop hygiene concepts.

The tightened measures end automatically if the respective state parliament does not extend them after three months at the latest.

Corona hotspot - This applies from April 2nd, 2022

In the Hamburg hotspot, an FFP2 mask requirement

and the

2G Plus access model for clubs and discos

will therefore continue to apply from April 2nd

.

An FFP2 mask must be worn indoors, on buses and trains, in public spaces, at events, on city tours and also in closed boats.

The mask stays on at the hairdresser and in retail.

Also in gastronomy.

There is one small exception: in shops for daily needs, a medical mask - surgical mask - is sufficient.

The mask requirement remains in schools, but this is to be relaxed.

From April 4th, students and teachers can take off the mask at work and in class, the school authorities said.

But there is no compulsion to take off the mask.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania extends Corona rules until April 27, 2022

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will use the protective measures provided for in the new Infection Protection Act by April 27th.

These include mask requirements, distance rules and test requirements for unvaccinated people as part of the 3G regulation.

An FFP2 mask is no longer mandatory, a surgical mask is sufficient.

In tourism, the 3G regulation still applies to arrival.

From Easter, however, the 3G rule is to be lifted in restaurants.

At events, it remains at 3G - only those who have been vaccinated, who have recovered and who have been tested on a daily basis - have access to the gym or to events.
