In an emotional video message, former boxing world champion Wladimir Klitschko thanked the Germans and their government for their help in defending against the Russian invasion of his Ukrainian homeland.
"The support that Germany is providing Ukraine is remarkable - be it material aid, the provision of essential goods or weapons," said Klitschko in the mobile phone video published on Twitter on Saturday, which he took at the end of his two-day stay in front of the Reichstag building in Berlin took up.
The words of the German anthem "Unity and Justice and Freedom" are not empty words, he said.
“Germany and the Ukraine are united like never before because they defend international law and the central value of freedom together.” Both peoples are now really “brother peoples”.
In particular, Klitschko praised the commitment of the federal government.
Germany will thus live up to its responsibility and its values.
“History is witness and will never forget.
Thank you, dear German brother country,” said Klitschko, whose brother Vitali is the mayor of Kyiv.
On Friday, Klitschko also met Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP).
On Thursday he spoke to Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens), among others.
