The world celebrates the World Autism Awareness Day this year under the slogan (good and inclusive education for all), an expression of the need to spread awareness and education regarding autism patients and emphasize the importance of integrating and empowering them to become a positive and fruitful addition.

In Syria, there are a number of active associations that provide training and support for this category according to integrated educational programs that enable autistic children to reach their maximum potential, raise their social and educational capabilities, and help them with treatment, according to Yara Ahmed, the case manager at Shamla Amal Association, who explained to SANA that these programs help to develop Language and behavioral skills, increasing the abilities of autistic children, and teaching parents special methods of dealing and applying them in an educational manner so that the child's behavior is gradually controlled.

Autism includes several types, according to Ahmed, which are called autism spectrum disorders, and the characteristics of autism vary according to its type, including Asperger syndrome, which is the mildest type of autism spectrum. Kind of trouble communicating with others.

She pointed out that the most severe and common types of basic autism disorder, and those affected by it have a significant language delay, as well as specific or repetitive behaviors, and their autism is often associated with intellectual disabilities, indicating that the signs of autism differ from one child to another, including not responding to his name and avoiding eye contact or lack of awareness when Others talk, lack of understanding of role-sharing, aversion to physical contact, refusal to look at things presented to them, lack of facial expressions or unusual facial expressions, among other situations.

In turn, Marwa Hussein, supervisor of the Intellectual Development Hall at the Society for the Care of Children with Cerebral Palsy, indicated that a child with autism is subjected to a test by specialists to find out the severity of the condition and start the child’s intellectual development from visual communication and simple to complex skills, in addition to verbal communication so that the child can communicate with others and communicate needs What the hostess wants is that the non-speaking child is dealt with through a system that relies on the exchange of communication through pictures (PICs).

The United Nations declared the 2nd of April every year as the World Autism Awareness Day, which affects one in 100 children according to the World Health Organization, and to highlight the need to help improve the quality of life for people with autism so that they can live a full life as an integral part from the community.
