Baumgärtner is a green candidate for the Tübingen mayor election

The Greens in Tübingen send Ulrike Baumgärtner into the running for the mayoral election in autumn.
The 42-year-old mayor in the Weilheim district of Tübingen received 149 yes votes (55 percent) in a primary election on Sunday, 103 (38 percent) eligible members of the city association voted no.
There were 19 abstentions (7 percent).
Tübingen – The incumbent mayor, Boris Palmer, received 14 votes, although he did not take part in the primary election.
This was made possible by a free field in which names other than those of the official candidate could also be entered.
However, these votes are invalid.
There were 496 eligible voters.
287 eligible voters (58.9 percent) voted.

In a dispute with Palmer last year, the general assembly of the Greens decided to determine their candidate for the mayor election on October 23 for the first time in a primary.
Baumgärtner threw her hat into the ring a few days later.
Last year, the state executive of the Greens in Baden-Württemberg officially requested that the mayor of Tübingen be expelled from the party.
In mid-January, Palmer announced that he did not want to run as a Green Party candidate in his city's mayoral election in the fall.
He will not take part in the nomination process because of the beginning of the party exclusion proceedings against him.
The 49-year-old has been mayor of the university town since 2007.
