Wearing a mask and access rules like 3G will then be a thing of the past almost everywhere.

Mouth and nose protection only has to be worn on buses and trains, nursing homes and hospitals.

On the other hand, normality is also returning to schools.

Employers decide what applies in offices and companies.

Although the state government of the Greens and CDU has long resisted the extensive easing, it is now implementing the federal regulations with its new Corona regulation.

The traffic light in Berlin had changed the Infection Protection Act, mainly at the instigation of the FDP, so that conditions are hardly possible.

The background is that the omicron variant is milder and the hospitals are no longer as heavily burdened by Covid patients.

Contact restrictions for private meetings and the capacity limits for public events had already been shelved two weeks ago.

Now, after a transitional period, most of the other requirements will no longer apply.

In the past week, the number of new infections had fallen significantly, the 7-day incidence fell from almost 1870 to around 1520.

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach again recommended wearing masks indoors.

He will do this, for example, when shopping, "I advise every citizen to do the same," said the SPD politician on Deutschlandfunk.

"The risk of becoming infected has rarely been higher than it is now." From a medical point of view, he would have thought that masks and other protective rules were right, but legally it was no longer possible throughout Germany.

Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann had also called for the mask to be kept inside.

"In this way we not only protect our own health, but also show solidarity in the community," said the Green last week.
