The duo 123 Andrés, made up of the spouses Andrés Salguero and Christina Sanabria, are part of the Latinos nominated for the 64th edition of the Grammy Awards.

And they arrive at the ceremony for "Actívate", a children's album in which they have the collaboration of artists such as Rubén Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Los Rabanes and Rafael "El Pollo" Brito, among others.

The production is the only South American album nominated in the category of best music album for children.

And it is important to note that 10 of the 21 songs that comprise the album are in Spanish.

123 Andrés's first time at the Grammys

123 Andrés arrive at the Grammy Awards for the first time a year after a controversy arose due to the lack of diversity in the category of best children's album, a controversy that came to be reviewed by media such as Rolling Stone magazine or the chain US public radio NPR.

"The situation from the year before [was] that all the nominees were white, there was not one person of color in a country where there is so much diversity, where there are so many children of different races, from different cultures speaking different languages. That was a little bit a scandal," Christina Sanabria told CNN Pop Zone.

"We are very proud of

Activate

, we always were and it is impossible to know if it would have been nominated with or without this situation that happened," added Sanabria.

"Activate" is an album with which they seek to encourage children to be physically active, to get up from the furniture, from their bed, and as its name says, activate themselves.

An album that invites you to activate

"We always carry some message," says Salguero.

"We want to combat sedentary lifestyle

and encourage the little ones to move with their families," added Salguero.

Perhaps the idea for the production was conceived with "Salta, salta", one of his most popular songs.

"It was a super fun song and you see that the children connect a lot. So we had that north," added Salguero.

"It was after a few years that we began to think and learned about the work of certain organizations that we said well, let's also do it as an invitation to move our hearts, helping these foundations. And it was a very long job to contact the artists, record the artists (it was) really hard work, as you say, 21 songs that in the end we felt like we built a three, four-story building, something like that when sometimes a lot of people build a little house, so it really is a great satisfaction ", he added.

The message behind the songs of 123 Andrés

Also, with "Activate", the couple seeks to break those traumas that children —or even parents— can have around physical activity.

"Many people have some trauma that we say that physical activity was a scolding, it was a punishment. They have negative associations or that they never did it with their family. So, this album comes to bring as a new reference that going out to ride a bicycle with your family, that going to fly a kite with your family, even if it's walking, going around the block in your neighborhood, it's something nice, it's something beautiful, it fills us with joy and music also helps", explains Sanabria.

The couple explains that the biggest challenge for the production was the message, that it not only be a song about riding a bicycle or playing baseball, but that it leads children to dream.

"

For example, the song 'Get it out of the stadium', that is, get it out of the stadium, not only when you're playing baseball, but in any aspect of your life, in a song about playing soccer it's about teamwork. So all those teachings they leave us those messages that apply to sports, to physical activity, but involve all fields of our lives," explains Sanabria.

123 Andrés, in addition to helping parents and children to be more active, collaborates with the Cakike Foundation in Colombia, granting a scholarship to promote musical education in young people, and in Venezuela he helps with the "El Alma No Hace Disacábilidad" project, which provides musical experiences to children and youth with special needs.
